Before considering adoption PLEASE be honest with yourself as you ponder the possibilities………
Is an Australian Cattle Dog right for you? Temperament, health, size, nutrition, training, leadership, life expectancy are just some of the factors you will want to take into consideration. For more information about the breed please go to
It is well known, but vastly under practiced, that Australian Cattle Dogs require a respectful, firm, consistent, strong pack leader. The ACD is very intelligent as a breed by comparison to others.
Are you committed to a lasting relationship that could last 10-plus years? ACDs are known to live well into their teens! Consider your future and how your dog will fit the picture. Marriage, family planning, job changes, potential moves, etc. Do
you have time for adequate walks and play, for grooming, veterinary
visits, and daily care? What happens if your work or other time
commitments change? All of these factors impact your family and are some of the reasons these dogs have ended up in the shelters. It is of utmost importance to us that this will not impact their lives ever again.
This commitment requires your ACD to be part of your family 24/7. They will not be placed in homes that do not want or allow their dogs in their homes as an integral part of the family. Your ACD will require interaction inside and outside of the home to maintain a good level of happiness and socialization.
ACDR receives applications daily. While we are not a first come-first serve rescue, we will stop accepting applications once a dog has received 3 or more applications. We try our best to match the right dog with the right family. It is never a judgment against an applicant’s ability to provide a good home but rather if the dog is the right fit for that home.
When submitting your application, please understand that there may already be other applications in process. We try our best to keep the website updated on a daily basis with the most current status of the dogs.
If the dog you are interested in ends up pending before your application is received, don’t lose hope; we receive new dogs in every week! We are positive that we will be able to help you find a new family member just right for you. Think of ACDR as "D-Harmony," here to help you find the perfect furry companion.
6 year old ACD/Chi mix
Her mom was a blue ACD, her dad was a wily Chihuahua and she got the best of both breeds. She is about 16 pounds and acts much younger than she is (good longevity genes from both sides!). She loves kids and other dogs as long as they are respectful. Swoops will play fetch until your arm falls off and she doesn’t care if it’s a ball, toy, frisbee or just whatever. When playtime is over she loves to curl up in your lap and watch TV or under the covers when it’s time for bed. Her short, tight coat means easy bath time and less shedding. She loves to go for rides in the car and would be a great walking or jogging companion. She is housebroken and uses a dog door. She has not been around cats, but that doesn’t seem like it would be a problem.
Swoops is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted

Just like the spice, this young lady is a rare and sweet little girl! Since coming to ACDR a few months ago she has blossomed into a joyful and confident young lady. Because she was deaf her previous people didn’t think she was any good or could learn anything so she was discarded. We felt differently and with time and tenderness Saffron has learned the joys of being a family member and how to make friends as well as a few basic hand signals. She is very eager to learn and explore but can still be shy with new things. She will need a home who is committed to continuing her education and confidence building by encouraging her to be all she can be regardless of whether or not she can hear.
In her foster home her favorite friend is a kitten that is around the same age as she is. They play all day! If there is a cat in Saffron’s new home it MUST like playing with dogs. She also likes her other furfriends and kids too! So if you like the finer things in life and want to add a rare spice to your home, Saffron is your girl!

Nia is an exceptional young lady, about 2 years old. She came from a bad situation, but you can't tell with how loving and happy she is. She loves going to the dog park, and gets along great with all dogs. She is also cat friendly, and potty trained in the house. Nia is learning her commands well. She already knows sit and come, and we are working on not jumping and laying down. She kennels up so well, and is just so grateful to have a safe home to live in. She is going to be so happy and appreciative when she finds her forever home. She is a huge snuggler, and just wants to cuddle with her person. She loves to play with the ball, and although she herds she is very nice about it. Any home would be lucky to have this girl! She is the perfect combination of sweet, pretty, goofy, and loving.

If you are looking for a smaller, lower-key ACD then Autumn is for you. We’re not sure what she’s mixed with but she’s only about 15 pounds. She is very attentive to her person and makes a great walking and TV companion. She’s not going to be the next agility star, but if there’s food involved she’ll be right there using her pretty sitting skills to garner some treats. She gets along well with other dogs and would be better with children who are a little older. She has not been around cats but I think she would do fine.
Autumn is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted

It’s pretty obvious that Ramen isn’t an ACD or even a mix of. Ramen was a good will effort for another remote rescue we work with who didn’t have the funds or resources to help him with his special birth defect. Ramen was born with a sheath abnormality that exposed his “boy hood” to unnecessary peril! Top surgeons collaborated and things are now as they should be. It wasn’t life threatening but was definitely a liability and he would have been very hard to adopt out with his unique physique.
Ramen now looks like all the other boys! His surgery went very well and he is now healed up and ready for a forever family! Ramen is a lover boy who likes to have kind and friendly playmates and snuggles on the sofa. He is such a good boy! He easily entertains himself when the other older grumpy dogs won’t play with him, he hasn’t had any accidents in the house since forever and he has good house and people manners. Ramen will need an active home who is committed to his continued education and who will help him gain the confidence he will need to be a good furcitizen!
Ramen is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.

The Fur Monty
10-12 year old DEAF male ACD
The Fur Monty is a big and happy deaf cattle dog boy who is enjoying the good life. He's getting used to affectionate things like kisses, but he loves his whole body scratches! He's an older boy, so he doesn't feel the need to play all that much, but he does like to be with his people. He likes to lay where he can see all the action, and not have to make much effort to join in. He knows how to use a dog door, but would prefer his humans to get up and let him out! He's good with cats and chickens, and other little dogs. He loves meal times so much, he'll even do a little dance for his food! The Fur Monty might be an older boy, but he still has a whole lotta lovin' left to do!
Fur Monty is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted

Sweetheart is just that, a totally sweetheart!! She loves everyone and even grins! She is a high energy girl and will need a family who is out and about more than their on the couch. Sweetheart knows her basic hand signals and is eager to learn new ones. She gets along with all other dogs she meets and loves every age and size of person. We don’t know about cats. If you have questions about owning a deaf dog, we are more than happy to talk to you about it and Sweetheart would make a great dog for “first time deaf dog owners” Please think about adding some extra sweetness to your Valentine’s Day and every day for years to come!

Skittles is an explosive little gal! Petite in size with a giant personality. She's high energy looking for a good outlet....running, hiking, and agility. She's still a work in progress but is sure to satisfy any high energy ACD savvy home. She does well with other confident, balanced dogs and would be OK with older children due to her energy level. Skittles will need a home dedicated in keeping her busy. She is proving to be quite athletic and would be a good agility prospect. NO cats though.

She is a timid and shy little girl. She needs a quiet and calm home and maybe a fur buddy to help her along the way. She is will need a home who understands her trepidations and can help her work on gaining confidence. Candy plays well with her siblings and big foster sisters and loves moose antlers. Uses the dog door and sleeps with her siblings in a crate. She is currently working on leash training.

Little Miss Curry is one spicy little dish! Smart as a whip and eager to please, this young lady is up for adventure! Curry, like all other deaf dogs, doesn't know she is missing something and, trust us, she makes up for it in attitude! She is fearless, bold and ready to take on the world. Curry loves all people she meets, young to old, and is a huge cuddler. When it comes to her furfriends she can be a bit choosy. Dogs her size and smaller are no issue and as long as the bigger dog is OK with her bigger attitude and doesn't challenge it she's OK with them as well. (Curry currently lives with 12 other dogs in an AC- savvy home and is doing great.) Red Curry will need a family who understands the breed and who will be dedicated to her mental and physical well being. Curry has proven to be a great hiking partner on and off leash. She has great check-in skills and never ventures far keeping you in sight at all times. She also enjoys agility type activities and could be a great little agility project! She's a spicy #5 and not for the faint of heart but for those who like their food and life on the spicy side she's guaranteed to fill your life with warmth and excitement!
Red Curry is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.

Sensei (Sen Say)
10 year old male ACD
Hello – I am so happy to introduce myself to you. I was living in a home that ended up running out of time to be with me. So, I have thankfully been taken into the loving arms of Arizona Cattle Dog Rescue. I have not been with them very long but I can tell you some very positive things about myself. I am a friendly, dog and human-loving kind of dog. I love to ride in the car, walk very nicely on a leash, sit patiently for a treat, and in general, I am just a cool 10-year-old dude. I am totally up-to-date on my medical and I have a micro-chip. I will be at the upcoming adoption events – won’t you please come say ‘hi’ and give me a pet. I am fostered in Mesa Arizona and would love to meet you. I am fully vetted and ready to join your family right now. Thank you very much, Sensei

What a sweet little gal “Dori” is! A little shy at first she can quickly warm up and steal your heart. Tandori likes to be with her people, a true Velcro girl although she’s not the “in your face” type at all. Tandori does well with other dogs and plays with those of similar energy. We suspect she would do fine with cats as well due to her sweet nurturing nature. Small kids or a busy household may be a little much for this sweet girl but we’re sure she’d quickly become accustom to sleeping in bed with an older child. She loves snuggles and attention, and just look at that face, you just want to fall into those big brown eyes! Tandori also looks forward to adventure, walks nicely on leash and is sure to be your best friend in no time.
Tandori is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted. She is currently located in Buckeye, AZ.

-> Special Placement Girl <-
Ridley, aka Mamas is a very elegant and agile ACD mix. She looks like she has some greyhound in her and is very quick. She needs a special adopter however due to her special social issues. Mamas takes a bit longer (days not hours) to warm up to people as she is fearful and tentative, sometimes she will aggressively bark, but does not follow through with any aggression. She needs a very calm, peaceful home where she can feel safe and her family understands her social needs. Small children or a busy household would not be a good fit for this special girl.
She is a good watch dog, and she is very good with cats, chickens, and other small animals. She does best with other confident dogs around to take the attention and pressure off of her, so at least one other confident furfriend would be nice. She is very sweet once she gets to know you, and enjoys short bouts of playfulness and cuddles on the couch.
Mama’s will most likely never be an outgoing, social dog, but give her time and she will be a snuggler and great friend for that special someone.
Ridley is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.
