Available Dogs

Before considering adoption PLEASE be honest with yourself as you ponder the possibilities………

Is an Australian Cattle Dog right for you? Temperament, health, size, nutrition, training, leadership, life expectancy are just some of the factors you will want to take into consideration. For more information about the breed please go to
WWW.CATTLEDOG.COM

It is well known, but vastly under practiced, that Australian Cattle Dogs require a respectful, firm, consistent, strong pack leader. The ACD is very intelligent as a breed by comparison to others.

Are you committed to a lasting relationship that could last 10-plus years? ACDs are known to live well into their teens! Consider your future and how your dog will fit the picture. Marriage, family planning, job changes, potential moves, etc. Do you have time for adequate walks and play, for grooming, veterinary visits, and daily care? What happens if your work or other time commitments change? All of these factors impact your family and are some of the reasons these dogs have ended up in the shelters. It is of utmost importance to us that this will not impact their lives ever again.

This commitment requires your ACD to be part of your family 24/7. They will not be placed in homes that do not want or allow their dogs in their homes as an integral part of the family. Your ACD will require interaction inside and outside of the home to maintain a good level of happiness and socialization.
________________________________________________________________

ACDR receives applications daily. While we are not a first come-first serve rescue, we will stop accepting applications once a dog has received 3 or more applications. We try our best to match the right dog with the right family. It is never a judgment against an applicant’s ability to provide a good home but rather if the dog is the right fit for that home.

When submitting your application, please understand that there may already be other applications in process. We try our best to keep the website updated on a daily basis with the most current status of the dogs.

If the dog you are interested in ends up pending before your application is received, don’t lose hope; we receive new dogs in every week! We are positive that we will be able to help you find a new family member just right for you. Think of ACDR as "D-Harmony," here to help you find the perfect furry companion.

Kissy Elliot
5 year old blind female ACD mix

Kissy Elliot is up for anything and great with everyone. She navigates her world just fine and always has a smile on her face. She has early onset cataracts, but her hearing is just fine. We believe she is almost completely blind but may be able to see outlines of things in the brightest of conditions. Kissy plays fine with other dogs, loves to snuggle, is wonderful in the car and is a friend of the cats, she has also met a bunny and had no strong feelings about that. She would be fine in a home that had children as long as they are respectful of her. She is wonderful both on and off leash, if she is off leash it is important to keep her in safe terrain. Kissy also plays fetch, it is her favorite thing, next to sitting right on your foot and leaning into you for some loving. She has wonderful recall, if you say her name a few times she can find you pretty easily.

Kissy is housebroken, crate trained, and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Flagstaff.

Cher Bono
4 year old female ACD mix

Cher is a sweet girl who had never seen the outside of her yard upon being turned into the shelter. She is up for exploring, but needs a companion that is both patient and understanding as she gets used to living the life of a loved dog. She needs an owner who is breed savvy and would probably not do well in a home with small children. She is good with other dogs. Though she can't turn back time, she is very eager to see what she has been missing out on for the past four years. Please check out her album for more photos.

Cher is housebroken, crate trained, and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Buckeye, AZ.

Clam Chowda
**Pending**

2-3 year old female ACD mix

Chowda is a petite little thing weighing in at only 24 lbs. She has the "get up and go" of a cattle dog but in a smaller package. She does well with dogs after she has some time to get to know them. She is trustworthy both on and off leash, she loves to cuddle and she really likes treats. She has explored some agility equipment and seemed moderately interested. She jumped through some hoops with accuracy. Chowda has met some bold cats but was afraid of them, she did not act aggressively though. If your looking for the cattle dog personality but not the cattle dog size, Chowda might be the lady for you.

Chowda is housebroken, crate trained, and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Flagstaff.

Merry Jo Jean
**Pending**

2 year old female ACD mix

Merry is a high energy girl that will need an active, but quiet, home. She needs a little time to warm up and would do best in a home with no small children. Merry gets along with just about everyone that she meets. As you probably notice from her photo, she is missing an eye. She came into ACDR in early December with an eye injury. She saw an eye specialist who confirmed that she could not see out of the eye and that it did indeed need to be removed. The wonderful team at Kaibab Vet in Flagstaff performed the surgery. The pathology report has come back with no indication of disease: her retina was detached and there were other signs of unknown trauma to the eye. She has healed up nicely and once her hair grows back, her natural good looks will be fully intact. Check out her album for more photos.

Merry is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Flagstaff.

Missy B
1-2 year old female ACD mix

Missy is an active girl who takes a little while to warm up to new people but once she has bonded she remains close at all times. She loves playing with her doggy friends and keeping busy. Missy would prefer to live in a home with no small children, they scare her with their quick movements and unpredictable behavior. Missy has been through some tough times and is ready to find a home to call her own. You can find her whole story in her facebook album.

Missy is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Buckeye.

Amy Pant
1-2 year old female ACD mix

Amy is an adventurous girl who would do well in a breed savvy home. She would prefer to be an only dog or be partnered with a dog that is not overly dominant. She is eager to please and has potential to learn a lot more. Check out her album for more photos.

Amy is housebroken, crate trained, and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Flagstaff.

Canela
1-2 year old female ACD mix

Nellie is very affectionate and although she would be happy to be an only dog, she also gets along well with other dogs in her foster home. She respects the leadership of a strong alpha female and enjoys wrestling and playing with dogs, but doesn't really know what to do with a ball, a frisbee or a bone. Nellie is a quick learner and she wants to please, so as she gains trust and confidence she may figure out what toys are for. She has been kid-tested and approved with kids as young as 5, and she would love nothing more than to curl up with a young one and hear all of their secrets. She is trustworthy in the house, knows how to use the doggy door and prefers to be uncrated. There are no cats in her current foster home but our guess is that she would be respectful of them. Please check out her album for more photos.

Canela is housebroken, crate trained, and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Tucson.

Lucille Ball
**Pending**

1-2 year old small female ACD mix

Lucy is a happy little girl weighing in at 25 pounds and her tail never stops wagging. She loves to be with her humans and gets along well with other dogs, although she can be a little reactive at times (we are working on that and she is responding well). She stands on her hind legs with ease and with that natural ability could be taught to walk on her hind legs. Lucy would love to bring some additional joy to your life and would love to become part of your family. Check out her album for more photos.

Lucille is housebroken, crate trained, and fully vetted.
She is currently located in North Phoenix.

Georgia
1 year old petite female ACD/Chi mix

Georgia is a little peach of a cattle dog/chihuahua mix, weighing in at just 22 lbs. She is a little shy at first but loves to be petted and loved on. She is gaining confidence every day in her foster home. Georgia is good with other dogs and would do well in a number of living situations as long as she had a lap to call her own. Georgia would probably be fine with older kids who respect her boundaries and she is still getting used to having a man in the house. Check out her album for more photos.

Goergia is housebroken, crate trained, and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Buckeye.

Summer Sausage
1 year old petite female ACD/Chi mix

Hi, my name is Summer Sausage because I'm a bit of a chub. Since I've been in my foster home I've been working out and watching what I eat. They tell me that due to something called "genes" I will never be as slim as my sisters, but I'm a very nice shape now. I love to eat, so you'll have to help me watch my figure. I eat in my crate because I prefer a table for one. I really don't like anyone bothering me at dinnertime, but that's only a couple of minutes out of the day! I'm kind of partial to my crate too. I don't like to share my bed, so if there are any other furries in my house, just shut the door if I'm not inside so I don't have to watch for someone to come sniffing around. That may sound like I don't care for friends, but that's not true. I actually love to play with with my smaller foster brother and sisters. I like dogs that are close to my own size (maybe 13 pounds?) and know when to play and when to respect my space. I would probably be fine on my own as long as I have plenty of time with my mom and/or dad. I'd love to sit on your lap or next to you on the couch and watch TV. I may not look athletic, but I can jump quite well, up on the couch or on the bed all by myself. I don't wet the bed and I come and go as I please through the dog door. Would you like to take in a little sun on the patio with me? Check out her album for more photos.

Summer is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Mesa.

Mr. Snifferdoodle
1 year old male ACD mix

Snifferdoodle has a silly coat that is curly and an even sillier personality. He especially loves to sniff, even in his sleep! Doodle is timid around strangers but is  very friendly dog and he is adjusting quickly in his foster setting. He is a real lover boy, and also is very athletic. He does well running on a leash with his person, and he has done some really sweet agility moves while chasing his foster brother in the backyard. He is still quite a puppy and is very playful. Please check out his album for more photos.

Snifferdoodle is housebroken, crate trained, and fully vetted.
He is currently located in Flagstaff.

Abe Lickin
4-5 month old male ACD mix

Abe has a stately persona about him much like his famous name implies. He is housebroke, but does go in his crate when no one is home since he is still a puppy. He also likes to chew on fun things. He is good with other dogs and kids, not sure about cats because he has never been exposed. He is a very nice boy.

Abe is housebroken, crate trained, and fully vetted.
He is currently located in Scottsdale.

COMING SOON!
We are either waiting to finish up on our vetting or to tell ACDR more about ourselves. We will be available within 2-4wks and are open for applications.
