Before considering adoption PLEASE be honest with yourself as you ponder the possibilities………
Is an Australian Cattle Dog right for you? Temperament, health, size, nutrition, training, leadership, life expectancy are just some of the factors you will want to take into consideration. For more information about the breed please go to
It is well known, but vastly under practiced, that Australian Cattle Dogs require a respectful, firm, consistent, strong pack leader. The ACD is very intelligent as a breed by comparison to others.
Are you committed to a lasting relationship that could last 10-plus years? ACDs are known to live well into their teens! Consider your future and how your dog will fit the picture. Marriage, family planning, job changes, potential moves, etc. Do
you have time for adequate walks and play, for grooming, veterinary
visits, and daily care? What happens if your work or other time
commitments change? All of these factors impact your family and are some of the reasons these dogs have ended up in the shelters. It is of utmost importance to us that this will not impact their lives ever again.
This commitment requires your ACD to be part of your family 24/7. They will not be placed in homes that do not want or allow their dogs in their homes as an integral part of the family. Your ACD will require interaction inside and outside of the home to maintain a good level of happiness and socialization.
ACDR receives applications daily. While we are not a first come-first serve rescue, we will stop accepting applications once a dog has received 3 or more applications. We try our best to match the right dog with the right family. It is never a judgment against an applicant’s ability to provide a good home but rather if the dog is the right fit for that home.
When submitting your application, please understand that there may already be other applications in process. We try our best to keep the website updated on a daily basis with the most current status of the dogs.
If the dog you are interested in ends up pending before your application is received, don’t lose hope; we receive new dogs in every week! We are positive that we will be able to help you find a new family member just right for you. Think of ACDR as "D-Harmony," here to help you find the perfect furry companion.
The holidays are upon us and we here at ACDR would first like to thank all of our hardworking volunteers for a year filled with many great rescue and adoption stories! Because their hard work and dedication many lives have been positively changed forever!
As a way to recognize the hard work and dedication of our volunteers we would like to give back in giving them some uninterrupted time with their families and friends. Rescue work often takes time away from the most important people in our lives. We want our volunteers to be able to spend this most special time of the year with those who have sacrificed with them.
ACDR will be “closed” to the public Dec 20th thru Jan 3rd.
We will not be processing applications, scheduling home visits or visits with the dogs during this time. Applications will be kept on file and we will be processed in the order received.
Thank you for your understanding and patience during this very important time of year! All of us here at ACDR wish you and your family the Happiest of Holidays! We hope that you too take this time to spend with those who are most special in your lives!
6 month old Terrier mix
It’s pretty obvious that Ramen isn’t an ACD or even a mix of. Ramen was a good will effort for another remote rescue we work with who didn’t have the funds or resources to help him with his special birth defect. Ramen was born with a sheath abnormality that exposed his “boy hood” to unnecessary peril! Top surgeons collaborated and things are now as they should be. It wasn’t life threatening but was definitely a liability and he would have been very hard to adopt out with his unique physique.
Ramen now looks like all the other boys! His surgery went very well and he is now healed up and ready for a forever family! Ramen is a lover boy who likes to have kind and friendly playmates and snuggles on the sofa. He is such a good boy! He easily entertains himself when the other older grumpy dogs won’t play with him, he hasn’t had any accidents in the house since forever and he has good house and people manners. Ramen will need an active home who is committed to his continued education and who will help him gain the confidence he will need to be a good furcitizen!
Ramen is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.
He is currently located in Flagstaff, AZ
6 month old female ACD/Terrier/Golden Retriever
This little girl was found in the desert by one of our volunteers. She was emaciated and covered in ticks! In times like this we like to say "ACDR stands for Any Cute Dog" Buttercup is a sweet, CUTE and very silly little girl! She is eager to please and is anxiously waiting for her forever home. She is still very puppy like and will need an active home who is up for the challenges puppies present. She gets along with everyone she meets!
Buttercup is almost housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Buckeye, AZ
The Fur Monty
10-12 year old DEAF male ACD
The Fur Monty is a big and happy deaf cattle dog boy who is enjoying the good life. He's getting used to affectionate things like kisses, but he loves his whole body scratches! He's an older boy, so he doesn't feel the need to play all that much, but he does like to be with his people. He likes to lay where he can see all the action, and not have to make much effort to join in. He knows how to use a dog door, but would prefer his humans to get up and let him out! He's good with cats and chickens, and other little dogs. He loves meal times so much, he'll even do a little dance for his food! The Fur Monty might be an older boy, but he still has a whole lotta lovin' left to do!
Fur Monty is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted
He is currently located in Tucson, AZ
Moo Shoo "Mini"
4-5 month old female ACD
My name is Moo Shoo but my foster mom calls me Mini. I love playing with puppies and my two big foster sisters. I am crate-trained but I get to sleep on the bed with my buddy, the cat. I use the dog door to go in and out and I don't make messes in the house. I love my squeak toys and moose antlers. I love to run and play but I also love to nap in my foster mom's lap. I would love to have a fur friend to play with and show me the way as some times I'm a little nervous with new things. I have chased the sheep some when it's ok but not sure what to do with them. I'm ok with big kids that are nice but not too sure about little ones, they kind of scare me. I will love you forever if you choose me.
Moo Shoo is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Paulden, AZ.

Skittles is an explosive little gal! Petite in size with a giant personality. She's high energy looking for a good outlet....running, hiking, and agility. She's still a work in progress but is sure to satisfy any high energy ACD savvy home. She does well with other confident, balanced dogs and would be OK with older children due to her energy level. Skittles will need a home dedicated in keeping her busy. She is proving to be quite athletic and would be a good agility prospect. NO cats though.
Skittles is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Buckeye.

Little Miss Curry is one spicy little dish! Smart as a whip and eager to please, this young lady is up for adventure! Curry, like all other deaf dogs, doesn't know she is missing something and, trust us, she makes up for it in attitude! She is fearless, bold and ready to take on the world. Curry loves all people she meets, young to old, and is a huge cuddler. When it comes to her furfriends she can be a bit choosy. Dogs her size and smaller are no issue and as long as the bigger dog is OK with her bigger attitude and doesn't challenge it she's OK with them as well. (Curry currently lives with 12 other dogs in an AC- savvy home and is doing great.) Red Curry will need a family who understands the breed and who will be dedicated to her mental and physical well being. Curry has proven to be a great hiking partner on and off leash. She has great check-in skills and never ventures far keeping you in sight at all times. She also enjoys agility type activities and could be a great little agility project! She's a spicy #5 and not for the faint of heart but for those who like their food and life on the spicy side she's guaranteed to fill your life with warmth and excitement!
Red Curry is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Flagstaff, AZ.

What a sweet little gal “Dori” is! A little shy at first she can quickly warm up and steal your heart. Tandori likes to be with her people, a true Velcro girl although she’s not the “in your face” type at all. Tandori does well with other dogs and plays with those of similar energy. We suspect she would do fine with cats as well due to her sweet nurturing nature. Small kids or a busy household may be a little much for this sweet girl but we’re sure she’d quickly become accustom to sleeping in bed with an older child. She loves snuggles and attention, and just look at that face, you just want to fall into those big brown eyes! Tandori also looks forward to adventure, walks nicely on leash and is sure to be your best friend in no time.
Tandori is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted. She is currently located in Buckeye, AZ.
1 year old petite female ACD/Chi mix
Georgia is a funny little girl who has ACD opinions with a terrier attitude to back it up. With women she is open to affection and bonding but she is VERY choosy about the men in her life. We think she’d do best in an active yet quiet home with a woman as her main caretaker. She has come a long way since being with us and in the right home she will continue to broaden her horizons! Georgia gets along great with other dogs and even cats although she would rather just hang out than play with her friends. If you’re looking for a quiet companion with a ton of personality packed into a little package, Georgia’s your girl!
Georgia is housebroken, crate trained, and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Glendale, AZ
10-12 month old female ACD
Riata had a “ruff” start with a family who didn’t understand the needs of an ACD. She was under stimulated and bored. We thought we might have some work to do with this girl to get her ready for a family but she has shown us true ACD resilience and has put her past behind her! Riata is sweet, caring and loves to play with her furfriends. She is quiet and respectful as well as very eager to learn all there is to learn in this great new world of hers. Riata would do well in many different types of homes as long as there is adventure and snuggles there.
Riata is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.

Peas n Carrots
1 year old male ACD
Carrots has a full-sized cattledog heart in a lapdog-sized body. He loves to cuddle and is ready for hours of adventuring with his forever family. Carrots is respectful on leash and eager to follow your lead. He is playful and non-reactive with other dogs, interested but not persistent with cats. While in his foster home, he has not shown any destructive behaviors and is eager to please once he knows what the rules are. Carrots would do well in an active home that is committed in helping him continue to learn and grow into the amazing lifelong companion he wants to be!
