Is an Australian Cattle Dog right for you? Temperament, health, size, nutrition, training, leadership, life expectancy are just some of the factors you will want to take into consideration. For more information about the breed please go to
WWW.CATTLEDOG.COM

It is well known, but vastly under practiced, that Australian Cattle Dogs require a respectful, firm, consistent, strong pack leader. The ACD is very intelligent as a breed by comparison to others.

Are you committed to a lasting relationship that could last 10-plus years? ACDs are known to live well into their teens! Consider your future and how your dog will fit the picture. Marriage, family planning, job changes, potential moves, etc. Do you have time for adequate walks and play, for grooming, veterinary visits, and daily care? What happens if your work or other time commitments change? All of these factors impact your family and are some of the reasons these dogs have ended up in the shelters. It is of utmost importance to us that this will not impact their lives ever again.

This commitment requires your ACD to be part of your family 24/7. They will not be placed in homes that do not want or allow their dogs in their homes as an integral part of the family. Your ACD will require interaction inside and outside of the home to maintain a good level of happiness and socialization.
________________________________________________________________

ACDR receives applications daily. While we are not a first come-first serve rescue, we will stop accepting applications once a dog has received 3 or more applications. We try our best to match the right dog with the right family. It is never a judgment against an applicant’s ability to provide a good home but rather if the dog is the right fit for that home.

When submitting your application, please understand that there may already be other applications in process. We try our best to keep the website updated on a daily basis with the most current status of the dogs.

If the dog you are interested in ends up pending before your application is received, don’t lose hope; we receive new dogs in every week! We are positive that we will be able to help you find a new family member just right for you. Think of ACDR as "D-Harmony," here to help you find the perfect furry companion.

                      Amy Chewmer
           **PENDING ADOPTION**
                                   4 month old, female ACD
Amy is great with other dogs, but she will sometimes bark at the cat. She does sneak on the couches and she LOVES playing in water. More to come as we get to know her!

Amy is 75% house broken, crate trained and fully vetted
She is currently located in Buckeye, AZ.

                 Mary-Kate Wholesome
2-3 yr old ACD/Border Collie mix

Mother to five of the AZ city girls, she came to us emaciated and dirty! After 4 weeks of some good RnR and nutrition she is looking and feeling much better!
Mary-Kate is a work in progress physically and emotionally. She loves life but is still learning to trust. She's so smart and eager to please! Mary-Kate plays with other canine fur friends but cats are out! She would do well with any age of kids and loves to snuggle!

Mary-Kate is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Flagstaff

          Ashley Wholesome
2-3 yr old ACD/Border Collie mix
(mother to 5 of the AZ City Girls)

Good day!  My name is Ashley but my foster mom calls me Princess Ashley.  She says it is because I am so sweet and pretty.  I am really good off leash, nothing better than some sniff-er-cise in desert while you enjoy your morning beverage.  I also walk nicely on a leash but not necessary around our property.  I am learning my house manners quickly, for example, not going in the trash can, sitting for prolonged times while we have visitors and such.  I do not have whoopies in the house; I am a pro at the doggie door.  I am a fantastic guard dog, I let off a few barks to let you know that someone is nearing the door or such, other than that I am a non-barker!  Sometimes those pesky little dogs across the alley need to be reminded that I am watching with a courtesy bark.         I want nothing more than to please you and go along on adventures.   Where are you going to take me???

Ashley is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Winslow

 Clark

                                           6-7 yr old male ACD

Hi, my name is Clark. You know, like Clark Kent. I’m SuperDog! I’m passed that puppy stage, but I still like to be active. Did someone say ride? Yes, I’d love to take a trip with you. I am excellent in the car as your co-pilot as long as you don’t mind me napping once in a while. I also enjoy taking hikes and my off-leash recall is great (just not in the city because there are too many bad things, and, well, it’s the law). I sleep next to your bed at night but when that alarm goes off I want to snuggle for a few minutes before we get up. If I’m not ready to get up yet I will throw myself on top of you. I am looking for a monogamous relationship, but one other small dog may be ok. I am your protector and I take my job very seriously. I can use the dog door, but I would much prefer to find someone who is home most of the time to accompany me on the trips outside. I am happiest with a nice, quiet life and routine. If you are looking for a devoted companion to make sure you are never lonely, that’s me, SuperDog!

Clark is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted

He is currently located in Mesa

Elsa
**PENDING ADOPTION**

7 month old ACD/Hound mix.

Elsa is fully of energy and spunk with an equally smart and eager to please demeanor. Elsa will need a somewhat experienced home as she is so smart and needs continued confidence building and balanced guidance. She LOVES to play with new friends once she's gotten to know them and would do well to have a playmate in her new home. She will also need a fairly active home to keep her energy level balanced.  Elsa is in a foster home with older and younger dogs and cats and all get along swell!

Elsa is house broken, crate trained and fully vetted.

She is currently located in Phoenix

Cher Bono
4 year old female ACD mix

Cher is a sweet girl who had never seen the outside of her yard upon being turned into the shelter. She is up for exploring, but needs a companion that is both patient and understanding as she gets used to living the life of a loved dog. She needs an owner who is breed savvy and would probably not do well in a home with small children. She is good with other dogs. Though she can't turn back time, she is very eager to see what she has been missing out on for the past four years. Please check out her album for more photos.

Cher is housebroken, crate trained, and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Buckeye, AZ.

                                 Nadine
6-8 month old female ACD mix

Nadine is a lover girl who would do well in many different types of homes. She loves kids, plays well with others and is even good with cats and farm animals. She will stay on the smaller side so she'll be easy to take along on family vacations and activities!

Nadine is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted
She is currently located in Buckeye

                                               Amy Pant
                                   2yr old ACD/Border Collie mix

Oh Amy, the “tails” you could tell! She was abandoned by her first owners in the back yard. They moved everything but Amy and her dry water dish. She came to us shy and uncertain of what her future held. After she gained the confidence and trust needed to go to a new home she was adopted and had to come right back after the resident dog and her didn’t find their happily ever after as hoped.
Then Amy was adopted by a wonderful home who loved her dearly but had the misfortune of having a job in which livestock was involved and Amy just didn’t understand the seriousness of having to be safe around them. So that home sadly had to send her back for her own safety!!
So now she’s back and wondering if there’s a home out there for her. Amy is fun loving and a joy to have around. She can be head strong as her breed mix would indicate but with a family who understands the need for clear and intentional boundaries, Amy will thrive! Amy like the company of other dogs and plays like a banshee if allowed. She also like a soft sofa to snuggle on and watch a movie or some reality TV. Really it’s just about being with her person, she has no idea what’s on TV!

Amy is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted
She is currently located in Buckeye

Howard

6 month old ACD/Terrier mix

Howard is your typical puppy with tons of energy, spunk and curiosity.  He’s also a smart little cookie who is eager to learn and please. Howard loves other dogs, people of all sizes and would probably to OK with a cat. Howard will stay on the smaller size but he makes up for it in personality and is sure to bring any family years of devotion and cheer!

Howard is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted

He is currently located in Phoenix

Rusty

7-9 month old male ACD

Rusty is a fun boy weighing in at 30-35 lbs. He loves to play with other dogs anywhere from rough hard play with the harder playing dogs to gentle play with a senior blind & deaf girl. He likes everyone both 4 legged & 2 but has a high prey drive so he may not do well with cats. Rusty has never been destructive and is house trained using the doggie door, he catches onto things quickly by watching the other dogs in his foster home. Rusty would probably do best in a home with another playful dog but may do ok as an only dog if given proper mental and physical stimulation. He would probably do well in agility, herding or any other dog sports.

Rusty is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted

He is currently located in north Phoenix, AZ.

Missy B
1-2 year old female ACD mix

Missy is an active girl who takes a little while to warm up to new people but once she has bonded she remains close at all times. She loves playing with her doggy friends and keeping busy. Missy would prefer to live in a home with no small children, they scare her with their quick movements and unpredictable behavior. Missy has been through some tough times and is ready to find a home to call her own. You can find her whole story in her facebook album.

Missy is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Buckeye.

Jake
**PENDING ADOPTION**

Jake 1 ½ year old male blue ACD

“Jake the flake” is his nickname, but all in fun of course! Jake is a shy young man who is learning to trust his environment and those within it. He is eager to please and once he’s comfortable he becomes quite animated. He loves to play with other furry friends and is OK with cats. His favorite play mates in his foster home are either the puppies or the big oaf of a boy Toby Teeth. Jake would prefer a home that is on the quieter side, no little kids or hoards of friends and family around all the time. e does well in public Another confident furfriend would be most desirable for Jake as he has more confidence when his friends are around.

Jake is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted.

He is currently located in Phoenix

Georgia
1 year old petite female ACD/Chi mix

Georgia is a little peach of a cattle dog/Chihuahua mix, weighing in at just 22 lbs. She is a little shy at first but loves to be petted and loved on. She is gaining confidence every day in her foster home. Georgia is good with other dogs and prefers women. Georgia’s perfect home would be with a fairly active single woman with lots of love and lap time available, she is of course part Chihuahua. Check out her album for more photos.

Georgia is housebroken, crate trained, and fully vetted.
She is currently located in Buckeye.

                               Bindi
2-3 yr old female ACD mix

Bindi is all about cuddling and snuggling and sweet little kisses. Sweet little girl came to us from a shelter in New Mexico, and it was worth the trip. She gets along well with everyone she meets, although she can be a bit shy at first. She loves to rough house all day long with her foster sisters, and then take a break to curl up with her human brother on his bed for a good rest. She walks well on a leash, but right now she is not completely trustworthy off leash, although she shows potential because she wants to be part of the "in crowd" and does not want to be left behind. While she's a quick learner and easily motivated by food - she'd much rather just get loving than work on tricks and stunts. She would be very happy to find a forever home that has at least 1 other young and active dog to wrestle and cuddle with. She's good with very young kids, but seems to prefer older kids.
She has been completely trustworthy when left in the house with other dogs for long periods and knows how to use a dog door.
She was crate trained at one point, but it's been quite a while since she's had to be in a crate so she may show some resistance after having been out on good behavior for so long.
Once you meet her, you will not be able to resist her charms.

Bindi is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted
She is fostered currently located in Ahwatukee

Lacey

1yr old female ACD

Lacey is curious although sometimes a little reserved in new

situations. She has come a long way from spending most of her

time on her back or crawling on the floor to standing up on her

four legs and she is gaining more confidence every day. She

knows how to use a doggie door and is good around cats. She

doesn't have toy interest yet, but she LOVES to play with her

foster siblings. She walks nicely on the lead, though she is

learning her basic manners like not jumping in greeting, sitting,

and laying  down. She is a great passenger in the car and she

enjoys looking out the window. She is medium to high energy.

Lacey loves playing in the creek and going for hikes. She checks

in nicely, but is still learning a recall.

Lacey is housebroken, crate trained and fully vetted

She is currently located in Sierra Vista, AZ

Summer Sausage
1 year old petite female ACD/Chi mix

Hi, my name is Summer Sausage because I'm a bit of a chub. Since I've been in my foster home I've been working out and watching what I eat. I love to play with my smaller foster brother and sisters, I like dogs that are close to my own size (maybe 13 pounds?) and know when to play and when to respect my space. I would probably be fine on my own as long as I have plenty of time with my mom and/or dad. I'd love to sit on your lap or next to you on the couch and watch TV. I may not look athletic, but I can jump quite well, up on the couch or on the bed all by myself.

Check out her album for more photos.
